Our NJ and Hoboken FRANK SINATRA Music Tour BEFORE YOU ARRIVE PREPARE YOURSELF - In order to get some insight into our City of Hoboken - A great primer before the Sinatra tour might be to watch the academy award winning Best Film of the Year, ON THE WATERFRONT. Starring Marlon Brando. Interestingly Mr. Frank Sinatra was repeatedly promised the Brando role, which many International film critics claim was the movie role that Frank Sinatra was born to play. On The Waterfront 1954 - Best Picture - 8 Oscar's Academy Award Winner - Rent and See the Movie - This movie shot on location in Hoboken NJ - Based on 1940's Pulitzer prize winning series of 24 historical newspaper articles, about operations of the Hoboken Waterfront. The movie "On the Waterfront" Is a story about life struggles in Hoboken, a kid from Hoboken and the movie was shot in Hoboken. Many believe Sinatra should have been cast as the lead in this movie, especially After Frank Sinatra won his second Oscar 1953 Best Supporting Actor award for "From Here to Eternity", which also won the Oscar from Best Picture 1953. The Magic of the Hoboken Frank Sinatra Tour is NOT ONLY in just seeing a spot where this great man stood, ate or lived, but in trying see the OLD Hoboken inspired and drove this family to endure, persevere against the odds and not only to move upward to a better life for their children, but to succeeded. Hoboken was a tough industrial factory town. Gone are the many many active 24/7, 3 shifts a day - factories, foundries, shipping docks, ships, coal smoke stacks and industrial plants, but shadows of the old architecture is still here. No Doubt, Hoboken was a very tough industrial town with many hard working families, who were very committed to the families they raised. Many people on a walking tour are so busy walking from point to point past new buildings that they miss a lot core elements that drove Mr. Sinatra to success in the very tough music business. The Fact Is - It takes a very tough individual to make such beautiful tender music. Our tour is Full of Life Great lessons that are timeless. Music is Magic. |

FRANK SINATRA WALKING TOUR MAP - See Google Maps
A Map will Never Captures any Heartfelt Music Frank Sinatra Legendary Perspective -
The
SINATRA, name is found all over the city, at the parks and roads named for him, and
indoors in the artwork and memorabilia put together by fans.
For anyone interested in finding out more about the man who became known as "The
Voice," there's no better place to start than his former hometown.
Born in a cold-water flat on Dec. 12, 1915 to Italian immigrant parents, Sinatra
grew up in a Hoboken very different from what it is today.
In the 1910S, 20's and 30s, the
city's residents went to work in factories or dockside on the Hudson River.
By
night, they frequented smoky nightspots, social clubs, pool halls and bars.
Though the city still maintains an active nightlife, years of improvements have
left it far cleaner and safer than it was when Sinatra won over local crowds
during his rise to fame.
Sinatra's first taste of fame came in 1935 when he and three other Hobokenites, together called
the Hoboken Four, performed on the nationally syndicated radio show
Major
Bowes and His Original Amateur Hour 1935 .
The Hoboken Four opened the door for Sinatra to go solo. He later earned gigs
vocalizing with bandleader Harry James and then fronting Tommy Dorsey's band,
each furthering his career.
Sinatra's 60-year career would influence generations of American popular music,
and he is named by many as the greatest vocalist of all time.
Included on this self-guided walking tour are 16 of the most notable sites
chronicling Frank Sinatra's Hoboken, including his birthplace, some old
hangouts, memorials to the singer, and collections of historical records and
memorabilia.
You'll be able to soak in the city's charm and history, grab some great food,
and meet some native Hobokenites who idolize the great crooner.
For a map outlining the route, pick up a copy of the Gateway Guide. To
walk the path as outlined, allow about 90 minutes plus time to visit each stop.
Some locations may not be open at all times.

HOBOKEN - MUSIC PERFORMANCE
GROUPS AND VENUES -
Hoboken a Industrial Factory town had many live music performance venues
It was the entertainment of the day. There were - NO TV's, radios were

Here is a list of some of the local groups and Hoboken venues - Pre WW2.

In the 1980s,
the building was converted into condominiums.

Marty
O'Brien Sinatra, Frank's Father and City of Hoboken Fire Department Captain, .
asked his son
to donate his time for music performance at the Hoboken
Fire Department Benevolent Association Charity Fund Raiser. Hoboken had
many very dedicated Frank Sinatra music fans.
Historical Background and
Trends
Hometown Syndrome - Public Figures and Entertainers are consistently affected by
this - where some locals are never
satisfied with the accomplishments of any hometown entertainers.
Music Genre History -Around the 1950, 51, 52 post war teens did start to embrace Danceable Rock
and Roll and the Radio
Alan Freed's - Moondog Rock and Roll Party.
Frank Sinatra has been estimated to
have helped raise over 1 Billion Dollars for charitable causes at fund raisers
Here in Hoboken, Frank's and his parent were well known around Hoboken for their great generosity
in
donating their time and making contributions for local churches,
the needy
and charitable causes.
So Frank, as musician donates his time to make an
appearance, for a Hoboken Fire Department worthy Charitable Fund raising causes.
Believe it or not
Some highly selfish audience members were very disrespectful at the Union Club
Fire Dept charity fund raiser.
Audience members were Not Receptive, respectful, and disrupted, Frank Sinatra's
sing during his very first song and would
not stop.
Further, Sinatra music and family supporters would not or could not stop the
disruption.
Why should any musician who donates their time to charity as a volunteer have to put up with
disruptive audience behavior.
The selfish few audience members ruined it for so many Sinatra fans not only in Hoboken, but
all around the county of Hudson New Jersey.
Why wouldn't a local event provide any type of security or protection for the
band and performers for the venue or the event?
Simply that was very disappointing to Frank - Why would it not
be. Frank had nothing to prove to anyone back home.
It is easy to understand, why Frank
Sinatra left the Union Club stage, said Good Night to the audience and was so
disappointed he never make public
appearances in Hoboken until 1984 with President Ronald Regan at the St Anns church
Festa Italiana..
Sinatra's Music was good enough to sing on great International stages to sold
out crowds all around the world, but a
few selfish individuals in Hoboken with self motivated agendas ruined it for our
City's dedicated, Frank Sinatra music fans.
Hometown local neighbors many never

SINATRA FAMILY - HOBOKEN NJ HOMES -
Birthplace of Frank Sinatra - 415 Monroe St.
- Building No Longer Standing
Sinatra Family First Hoboken Home It is amazingly
small.
The four-story, eight-family apartment building where Francis Albert Sinatra was
born here in 1915 - Cold water flats. Each floor had a community
bathroom to share. No single apartment had it's own bathroom. The build
had small railroad style apartments of just very small three rooms for each
apartment with each Each apartment had a Window in the front room and the
back room usually the kitchen facing the backyard - Most probably a "Laundry
line" hanging out the back window for dry clothes off after being washed in the
kitchen sink. The building suffered a major fire in 1967 and was razed the following year.
The entire property being sold off in a tax sale around 1970+.

Less than a year

In 1927, the Sinatra family moved to this address, located in a more prestigious
part of town. Frank Sinatra was 12 years old at the time of the move.

Home of Frank Sinatra and his family from the time he was 15 until he was 20+,
Young Frank is said to have his own bedroom, which was a big thing at that time.
In his early 20's frank seems to move in or out or be there part time. He
married his long time Jersey City girlfriend Nancy Barbato in 1939, then settled
in Jersey City where Frank first two children were born.
These Garden Street home of the Sinatra family were Next Door to the

Franks Mom, Dolly, ran the Frank Sinatra Fan Club Hoboken operations in
the early days of Frank career. Dolly continued to answer Frank fan mail
and autograph requests that was sent to her Hoboken home for many years.
Dolly's Godson Jerome was a great helper his godmother, for fan mail. and
autograph pictures.
909 Hudson St.
- Sinatra Family's LAST Family Home in
Hoboken - Marty O'Brien and Dolly's last Hoboken house.
Once Sinatra hit the big time, he bought this property on one of the city's
nicest blocks for his parents. The building has beautiful
architecture. After this house Dolly and Marty wanted to stay close
to Hoboken area friends and family, but, moved just a mile North to the
Weehawken area. Many see this building as a symbol of Sinatra's
success. "When Frank made it big, this was his present to his mom and dad," says
Robert Foster, director of the Hoboken Historical Museum.
"People on the block
talk about seeing Frank's limo being double-parked, [when he visited for dinner]
on Sunday nights."
Bands and Nightclubs who Frank worked with loved Frank's mom Dolly, for
many reason's, but she was said to be a amazing cook back in Hoboken and brought
the food to Manhattan.
Musicians did seem to love trays of Sausage and Peppers, she brought to the
recording studios and concerts venues for the bands.
Once again wonderful Italian food making friends where ever it goes.
